New apartments and town homes go up with such frequency in Seattle that locals hardly give the construction a second thought. While these homes in Columbia City may seem like just another cookie-cutter development, they may require a closer look.
The Rainier Vista Community project includes 42 homes that are designed for ultimate energy efficiency. Every home in the community is 5-Star Built Green certified – a voluntary certification program developed by the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties that establishes environmental standards for energy efficiency, water use and indoor air quality.
