Seattle home is one of 27 winners of Dept. of Energy Innovation Award

Seattle is all about *going green* and it doesn’t stop when it comes to home building.

The U.S. Department of Energy awarded Seattle’s leader in green home building, Dwell Development’s Genesee Park Net Zero home the 2018 Housing Innovation Award! This award celebrates the nation’s very best in zero energy ready homes and it honors forward-thinking builders. It was only given to 27 homes in the country.

And what is zero energy you ask?

It’s pretty simple – it just means that the homes themselves create more renewable energy than they use. This home in particular does this by using solar energy, thermal energy, special design materials, and more.

Genesee Park Net Zero is 3,700 square feet and is near the shores of Lake Washington. It boasts a free-flowing floor plan that fills with natural light, airy living spaces, flexible bonus rooms and indoor/outdoor entertainment areas.

The design includes an array of reclaimed, local and recycles materials and features a combination of green building techniques like a 9.0 kW rooftop solar array, airtight building envelope, high performance windows, 12-inch thick walls packed with insulation, high efficiency heating and solar thermal technology for hot water.
